Blackbaud Gives Back in the UK with Digital Skills and Technology
Blackbaud employees in the UK volunteered their skills and time when they teamed up with Employee Volunteering last month. Teams of employees were matched with two charities, CPotential and Visibility Scotland. The teams spent the morning together talking through key challenges the charities are currently facing and potential actions they could take to further develop their impact, revenue, service offerings and more. The session provided an opportunity for volunteers to use their professional and personal skills to help the charities look at the strategic aspects of their organisation and to discuss opportunities and challenges.
“I was shocked how useful my digital skills and insight were to the charity, and it was a real pleasure to be able to help them in this way,” said Felix Parker-Smith, a communications specialist at Blackbaud. “Previously I felt unsure what practical help I could offer to charities whilst volunteering from home, but this was the perfect opportunity.”
Volunteers walked through suggestions for communicating impactful stories, expanding their donor base and finding tech solutions. The session was virtual, allowing employees to join the activity regardless of where they may live. “I’m really thankful to have been given the opportunity to volunteer with CPotential,” said Brendan Earley, a customer success manager at Blackbaud. “It was a fantastic way to share the skills I have learnt in the sector with an incredible charity who does so much for their members.”
Leaders at Visibility Scotland said they found the exercise beneficial. “We would definitely recommend the session to other organisations,” said Paul Hanlon, executive and business support, Visibility Scotland. “It is so helpful to get others’ opinions and ideas and we will definitely take the feedback forward as we develop and grow our organisation.”
Further assisting local UK organisations, Blackbaud made a donation to Business2Schools, a charity that distributes recycled tech devices to area schools to help their students bridge the digital divide. Laptop donations from Blackbaud went to Bishop Luffa School, a secondary school based in Chichester, West Sussex. “Access to tech and devices has been front and center over the last year with many families forced into the online learning environment,” said Melissa Britton, social responsibility manager, Blackbaud. “We’re so pleased to help put devices in the hands of those who need them!”
