Tapestry and Friends Asking Friends Help Increase Donors for Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida

The Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida is a not-for-profit association, founded in 1991, by parents of children with Down syndrome. It has grown from a few families to over 12,000 individuals, families and supporters. The organization serves more than 9,000 families in the 7-county area in and around Orlando, Fla. DSACF is the leading voice for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. The Association offers hope, encouragement and acceptance through advocacy, education and awareness so that each may realize their potential as members of the community.


As a small organization, Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida needed a better way to manage its annual walk fundraiser.

It was spending a significant amount of time pulling information from its online event management tool.

Additionally, the organization would have to close the event and halt donations four days before the event.


The organization selected Friends Asking Friends® to support and grow its annual walk.

Friends Asking Friends makes it easy for team captains to recruit participants and fundraise online.

To ensure that vital donor and participant information gathered through Friends Asking Friends could be used for future event and marketing initiatives, the organization used Blackbaud Data Service to transfer event information to its eTapestry® database.

The data transfer was seamless, took minimal time, and ensured that new donor information was recorded and tracked appropriately.


Acquired 3,000 new donors.

Increased online donations nearly 27 percent.

The simple reports available in Friends Asking Friends enables the organization to get more fundraising days for its walk. It no longer has to close down the event 3 or 4 days prior to pull and manipulate information to prepare for the walk day.
