Convoy of Hope Grows Rapidly and Sustains with Assistance from NetCommunity Spark

Convoy of Hope, a 501(c)3 faith-based nonprofit, was founded in 1994 and has served more than 51 million people throughout the world through international children’s feeding initiatives, community outreach, disaster response and partner resourcing.Currently, there are more than 115,000 children in feeding initiatives in El Salvador, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Kenya, Nicaragua and the Philippines. Through the feeding initiatives, Convoy of Hope provides good nutrition, clean and safe drinking water, healthy living environments, instruction on agricultural techniques and education.


  • The online donation page used by Convoy of Hope did not match the organization’s branding and would cause donors to be wary of giving online to the organization.
  • The organization would receive calls from donors indicating that the online donation pagelooked different and they feltuncomfortable entering their credit card and personal information.
  • Additionally, Convoy of Hope was using a third-party to send emails. Online gifts received through emails would have to be manually entered and required a full-time staff member.
  • The organization was growing and wanted to continue to grow. In order to effectively serve its mission, it needed to provide a more seamless online donation process and provide a better, more comfortable online giving experience to donors.


  • Convoy of Hope upgraded to NetCommunity Spark™ for a number of reasons:
    • It enabled the organization to customize its online donation pages for specific projects and proposals
    • It would integrated seamlessly with its donor database, The Raiser’s Edge®
    • Provides email capability that would eliminate the need for manual donation entry of gifts received via email.
  • NetCommunity Spark also provides an online donation page that matchesthe organization’s branding and eases donor concerns.


  • Convoy of Hope grew 774 percent in 2010, and another 83 percent in 2011.
  • As a disaster relief organization, online giving is an essential component to the organization. Currently 12 percent of all donations are received online.
  • Using the email capability in NetCommunity Spark, the organization experiences an average open rate of 16 percent. Approximately 22,500 donations were received online in 2011, an increase of 38 percent from the previous year.
  • The organization can better understand its donors and volunteers with information gathered and stored via NetCommunity Spark and The Raiser’s Edge.
  • With the added functionality of NetCommunity Spark, Convoy of Hope will begin doing more fundraising events to further feed the hungry in its service areas.
